About Joe Collins for Sept. 9 Special Workshop in DGD

By Nancy Garrett

Sept. 9 Wed. 10 AM Special Event with

Joe Collins

Club will meet Sept 12 via Zoom from 10–11:30AM

Joe grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is presently living in Shelby NC. He was 22 when he saw his first dulcimer and he used a borrowed dulcimer for 3 years before the owner reclaimed her instrument. Then he had trouble finding one, so he built his own plywood dulcimer back in 1986. As of 10 years ago he’s built more that 200 instruments.

In 1998 Joe began competing to sharpen in playing skills and has 3 regional championships and two 3rd place finishes in the National Mountain Dulcimer Championship. He’s also participated in folk singing vocal competitions. A talented guy with a variety of books including Celtic, Christmas, Waltzes, Civil War, Hymns and others.
